Party in the Park – August 5th!

I know I’m biased when I say this, but Circle of Hope Northwest is co-hosting what might be the event of the summer in Northwest Philly. On Saturday August 5, we’re helping to put on “Party in the Park” at Fernhill Park! The event idea was generated by Friends of Fernhill Park which our very own Steve Hoke is a part of. We decided to be part of the event because it’s a great way for us to meet neighbors who might not know we’re in the Northwest and to help bring restoration to the places where we live. We’re definitely more than just our meetings and this event helps to express that.

So why would I say that this might be the event of the summer in Northwest Philly? First of all, we have one of the hottest bands playing there: Circle of Hope’s Karaoke band! My lovely (and 21-weeks pregnant) wife Darcy will be on the keys so I’m pretty big on that band. They’ve got a long list of songs for you to choose from to sing and be backed by a live band! I love karaoke but have never done it with a live band so it’s going to be fun. And I WILL be on that stage singing. I hope you will too. Circle of Hope will also be providing a table for crafts for kids. Hint: family event!

We also got the super talented and very fun samba group Unidos da Filadelfia to come and play some samba music for us to dance to. They played a Circle of Hope event earlier this year and liked us so much that they decided to play for us again.

The main element of the event that made this happen is Parks on Tap. Parks on Tap is a traveling beer garden that partners with parks throughout the city. One of the best parts about Parks on Tap is that they give back to the city through the sales of their products.

The community represented through Friends of Fernhill Park are making sure that the park is a place ripe for restoration. Of course, Circle of Hope Northwest wants to be part of that restoration. You probably do too! So, come on out August 5th from 4pm-9pm and have a great time on us!
