This Participatory Defense Hub got connected to Circle of Hope thanks to our compassion team, Circle Mobilizing because Black Lives Matter! For more about the Participatory Defense project visit here.

The chief goal of Participatory Defense is to provide community members and participants with the opportunity to join forces in becoming the best courtroom supporters as well as best utilize their firsthand experience with the court system.

Courtroom support comes in many forms such as:

  • Delivering testimony at a hearing
  • Soliciting letters of support from other family members, employers, doctors, and others, for the judge and lawyers to use as a reference
  • Gathering actual evidence to bolster an offender’s claim of innocence and creating videos that show defendants’ daily lives and how their incarceration may gravely affect the health of their family union.

Most importantly, the Participatory Defense model functions to empower those who often feel overpowered by a large and intimidating system.

We meet every Monday from 6:30-8:30pm at 2212 S. Broad Street. Dinner will be served weekly.
